We have decided to run classes as normal for anyone who can make it. We will run the Junior hour as usual from 7PM to 8PM and then ONLY 1 Hour for the senior session 8PM - 9PM.

Whether you choose to train or stay at home, please be safe and take care when travelling in the current conditions!

Tonights lessons could be cancelled due to the treacherous road conditions. We are concerned that students and their families leaving at eight or later this evening could find the journey home a dangerous one.

We are waiting for a final confirmation from Blackwater leisure centre by 4PM and will keep everyone updated via the website.

We'll update this item as soon as we know for sure whats happening.

Maldon win 10 Golds in HIgashi Nationals!

MALDON HIGASHI KARATE CLUB took a squad of 18 to the Higashi Karate Kai's National Competition held in Harrow London last weekend.

The club recorded an outstanding result and took ten National titles as well as seven silver and five bronze positions.

In the team kata sections Maldon Senior team Gold was Paul Smith Connor Clydesdale and Russ Leach, Junior team Gold was Greg Wallaker, Connor Clydesdale and Trashant Patel Team Silver went to Brothers Ben, Michael and Mark Foster. Maldon's two other Junior teams were James Sebborn, Sheleigh Cydesdale ans Samuel Gibbs also Scott McQuarrie and Connor and Ryan Hutchings who finished just out of the medal placing's.

In the two person parent and child team Kata Team Gold was Paul Smith and Connor Clydesale and Silver to Steve Gibbs and Samuel Gibbs.

Thus confirming the clubs dominance in team kata with Maldon taking first place in all three events.

In the individual Kata boys green and purple section Maldon completely dominated this group with Ben Foster taking 1st place after a initially tying with Greg Wallaker they both had to perform another kata and Ben edged it on the day Trashant Patel was placed third and James Sebborn just out of the medals by one point in fourth place.

In the green and purple girls section Danni Clydesale took third place.

Boys yellow and orange belt Samuel Gibbs initially tied after his first kata and was placed third overall after performing a strong second kata.

In the mixed Junior Red and White belt section identical twins Connor and Ryan Hutchings both performed the same kata and after five judges scores were checked they had tied, so they both had to repeat their kata and again recorded the same scores and had tied yet again!! so the chief judge declared it a draw and they shared the top spot with each other.

In the senior events female yellow to purple belt Anna Christie (orange belt) took 1st place.
Mens purple to 1st kyu Brown belt Mark Foster also took 1st place with both of them winning with excellent scores comfortably ahead of the rest of their opponents in their respective sections.

Mixed Junior and Senior Black belt section Connor Clydesale kept up his winning ways placing second and took his fourth trophy of the day and recorded the almost perfect result finishing with three gold's and one silver from the four kata events an excellent achievement.

In the over 35 masters Kata

Club Instructors battled it out with Paul Smith taking 2nd place , Steve Gibbs and Russ Leach tied after the first kata with Steve finally taking 3rd place and Russ Fourth.

In the Kumite (fighting sections)

Scott Mcquarrie took third place in the boys 145 to 160 cm yellow to green belt section having tied on points after over time and eventually loosing on a referee's to a much taller opponent and the eventual winning finalist.

Sheleigh Clydesale totally dominated all her opponents and cruised through and won the final without conceding a point and won gold convincingly.

Michael Foster (145cm purple brown and black belt sect) this was a big section and Michael overcame so tough opponents to reach the final where he faced the host clubs squad fighter, right at the start of the bout Michael took a missed placed kick to his throat ! but got back up and in a very exciting final stuck to his game plan and deservedly took the title.

Connor Clydesale Just missed out on reaching his final in a very keenly fought bout by just one score and finished joint third taking his tally to five trophies on the day.

In the Male yellow to green belt Dave Rogers who was competing for the first time took third place in a very tough and bruising section and in the female kumite yellow to purple belt Anna Christie completed an impressive double by taking 1st place in the fighting as well as her earlier kata success an excellent achievement.

The clubs final result came in the over 35 kumite section where Russ Leach had won through to the final to meet Colin Heath who is a previous world title winner, so Russ new he had to be at his best! in an exciting final Russ took the fight to his opponent and although loosing out on the title matched his opponent and fought very well.

Maldon finished the day with an excellent total of Ten National Titles ! seven silvers and seven bronze positions a brilliant display by our squad and just reward for all the hard training they have put in prior to the competition.

A special well done to all of you competing at this level for the first time.

Our Maldon Squad won a total of 15 trophies which was the second highest of the day and placed us 3rd in the medal table overall.

Our Squad performed very well throughout the event, and myself and fellow coaches, Paul and John would like to congratulate you all on your sportsmanship, courage and etiquette which was first class and there for all to see.

MALDON KARATE CLUB COMPETITION

Well done to all of you who took part in the Competition on Sunday !st Feb 2009, also to all the parents and relatives who came along to add their support. We hope everyone enjoyed your day and those who competed gained some experience from the event.

Congratulations to all on their new grades, for those who we felt were not quite ready to grade we intend to have another grading on a Thursday evening in April. Whilst we realise it is disappointing not to of gained another belt this time, with hard work, concentration and determination I am sure many of you will succeed next time.

Maldon Spring Competition

Maldon Karate Club held its Spring competition event and regular junior gradings on Sunday 1st February.

The whole day was a great success with all those students chosen for the grading passing and all sections in the competition performed with a high standard.

The senior grades felt especially proud as the general standard shown by all the juniors was great. Well done to all.

We will follow this post up with all the results and grading passes and some pictures for all to download.

Once again well done to all the students and thanks to all the parents and helpers for their support.

Just a note to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all that train and know Maldon Karate Club.

All the Karate Ka this year have put huge effort into their training and we have had great grading and competition results.

We'd also like to thank all the parents for their excellent support and look forward to a great 2009 for the club and Higashi Karate as a whole

Training will restart Tuesday 6th January and Gradings and club competition will be Sunday 1st Feb 2009.

James and Luke put in great performances at club and competition!

Both James and Luke performed well in Sundays competition getting 1st and 2nd place respectively in the Junior 8th Kyu Kata section and seen here collecting their awards.
This achievement along with noticeable hard work and focus at the club lead to the decision to put both of them through a grading at class on Tuesday this week and lead to both students being promoted to Yellow Belt. Well done to both students and keep up the good work.
This should also be an example to all students showing that they are constantly being assesed on their performance and not just at the regular grading times.

Maldon gets great results at Higashi Nationals

Maldon Karate Club took part in the bi-annual Higashi National Karate Competition on Sunday 9th. We had great results from our junior and senior squads and got second place in the medals table. This is a fantastic result for many juniors who had never attended before. Results can be seen here and a more detailed report will follow soon. Well done all!

Connor gets just rewards

After numerous competition successes, enormous enthusiasm for his club and his art, being the youngest Shodan for Maldon ever and even teaching along side a very proud father, Connor has finally won recognition from a wider audience.

We all know and admire his commitment and talent, but now so has the Maldon Sports Council and this year they have awarded him' Young Sports Personality of the year'! This now takes him on to a regional competition.

Well done Connor.
